Hello all, my name is James, but I go by Jim, and a few days from now I will be 61. I am from Fort Worth, Texas and now living in Abilene, Texas. I am still learning to navigate around. I self-taught myself to play guitar and have learned a fair amount on YT as well. I am so happy with this format and the process. I am slow but sure. I enjoy rock, blues, and Country mostly but also enjoy jazz, big band also. I only recently became interested in piano and am looking to learn to be above average. I was searching on YT for a good teacher who had online classes and had watched a few videos of Marine’s. She was my favorite because many of the others were teaching generic ways to play different songs, which I could figure out myself. I love the way Marine teaches and her thoroughness. I did not know that I would be learning how to read music, and it is just awesome! Thank you Marine for your tireless work and commitment to teach this wonderful instrument!

Bonjour! I’m 60 and from Australia.
I ‘m in a rock/blues covers band, having rediscovered my passion for piano in the last 7 years! I started teaching myself playing chords through you tube when I realised piano wasn’t all about reading the exact music of a score and perfecting it. If only I knew that when I started learning as a child! I was lucky enough to find good friends to form a band with and we have a range of experience between us. It is so amazing to be doing this in the later stages of life!
I really want to keep improving on keyboards and have just bought a Nord Electro so that I can focus on bringing the organ sound into our music. So much to learn, and I’m excited to be part of this group.
-
Yeah! That sounds amazing!
I learned the same way, using only sight reading when I was younger!
Figuring out the chord changed my life!Welcome!

Hi!!
1. I’m Jose from Seville, Spain
2. I’m 60 year old
3. I love almost every kind of music
4. I have studied with a classical teacher for 2-3 years but now I’ve been playing alone for years and I think I need a method to follow for not to get lost. Then when I found some videos on youtube by Marine I thought that to join Online Rock Lessons would be a good way
5. I’d like to learn to play pop and rock songs and be able to play it with friends

Hi,
My name is Mark and I am from Munhall, Pennsylvania, USA (just outside of Pittsburgh). I am 67 years old and love rock and roll. I have a Hammond B3 organ that I just finished restoring and now I want to learn to play some of the great rock and roll songs from the 60’s and 70’s. Searching the internet for means of learning to play, I stumbled across Marine’s website and so far I am very impressed. It seems to cover everything for playing keyboards in general and includes specifics for the organ. This is exactly what I have been looking for!
-
Hi Marine,
My name is Paula – I am currently the keys player for a rock band but never felt confident about playing solo’s, intro’s or anything that highlighted a keyboard part – I always play in the background which is totally down to my lack of confidence – I intend to change that!!!
-
Hey Paula!
Welcome to the school. I’m so glad that you are here!
Let’s do this!!

Hi I’m Stephen from Melbourne Australia. I’ll be turning 68 next week. I like all music but really love rock and blues. I enrolled for Online Rock Lessons mainly to develop my rock organ playing. But I intend to delve into all the courses. My no1 goal is to be able to jam and improvise with creative freedom.
-
Hi Stephen, it’s good to meet a fellow Aussie in this group. (Perth)I too am focussing on the Rock organ, but also of course improving my piano skills. Really enjoying working thru the organ courses, it’s helping me keep focussed and I’m seeing improvement. I’m in a covers band , we’re all over 55 ,loving it! If you’re in a band too, it’d be great to trade ideas on good songs.

Hello Belinda
Yes glad to swap ideas and thoughts. I’m playing in an originals band called Stillrace. I play organ on “Swallow in the dust of time”. You can find it on YouTube.
-
Great song! You all sounds really good. Have you been together as a band for long? Nice to be able to play originals. 2 keyboards! It looks like you enjoy playing together. I have a Nord electro 6D which I’m finding is pretty good so far. Easy to transport . I’d like to take 2 keyboards as I prefer to play the piano on my Roland, but I don’t think our gigs really warrant it . Mostly small pub/club crowds.
-
Thanks Belinda
I’m currently playing a Yamaha YC61 but also have a Nord Stage but unfortunately I pick up a lot of hum when playing my Telecaster if I’m close to the keyboard. It seems to be an inherent problem with them. I got the YC61 for the waterfall keys and was thinking of the Nord but thought the power supply problem wouldn’t have been any better than the Stage.

Hi everyone!
1. I’m from Minsk, Belarus and NRW, Germany
2. How old are you? 28
3. I listen to everything; I like Bach’s organ pieces and I used to play in a black metal band as a lead guitarist. A couple days ago I first heard “Nothing at all” by Deep Purple, I listened to it for hours then and now it’s my new favorite song. I figured out a part of the main riff but it’s way too fast! Yet so wonderful!
4. Originally I started play keyboards to understand music theory, because I couldn’t get it on the guitar. I heard that in music schools everyone plays piano AND their main instrument, so I wanted to try the same, then I got fond of organs. I’m bad with dynamics and first when I tried the piano sound I hated it, now I just prefer organ sound. I like to press intervals and hold them really long, just to listen, and piano sound doesn’t have enough sustain.
5. I got to know about Online Rock Lessons from some context ads, and signed up because you’re rock-oriented and have organ lessons! I tried doing piano lessons on an organ but the arrangements were made for piano.
6. I play a semi-weighted 61-key MIDI keyboard and Hohner GP93 M electric organ. Just starting out and looking around.
Here’s Hohner GP93 M https://youtu.be/3X0UrXAxlzo
And the keyboard https://youtu.be/pZIj3Rpkdfg7. I binge-watched the Beginner Level of the Method and I’m practicing exercises from lessons 10-21.
Maybe I should have started from “Hammond Organ 101”? But my organ is not Hammond. I think I’d do this Beginner level first.-
Hey Agni!
That’s amazing 🙂
You can do the Hammond Organ course even if it’s not a Hammond, the concepts are the same! 🙂Welcome !
