I started reviewing some of the Beginner Method lessons. I’m working on “Down in Alabama” in the Practice Section. I wanted to say thank you for the tips on how to practice. I start my practice session by playing a few minutes of Hanon #1 as my warm-up. Then for the Technique part of my practice, I decided to practice the D Major scale and arpeggio. I decided to use D Major because that is the key that “Down in Alabama” is in. It’s a huge help when it comes to learning the song. Plus, I can understand how important scales and arpeggios are when it comes to learning to play piano. I see a guy like Rick Wakeman playing his solo piano version of “Morning Has Broken” and watch and listen to how he plays all those little smooth fills throughout that song and I always think, “Man, that is definitely the result of lots of scales and arpeggios practice”. I have a new-found respect for scales and arpeggios. 😎 I will get back to posting progress videos again soon starting with this very cool piece, “Down in Alabama”. I really love the whole vibe of that tune. I feel like I’m cruising down the highway when I listen to it. 🙂

Here is ‘Down in Alabama’. I had a little hiccup in my performance. Due to some arthritis, my pinkie on my right hand curls in towards my palm and sometimes I don’t get the legato sound that I want. I should share a photo of that. I’ll just say that 7th chords in root position in my right hand are impossible to play. 😂. Anyway, here is my performance. I really enjoyed it. I hope the video posts okay.

I finally finished working on “Baby Blues” from “The Method Beginner Level” course. I’ve always loved the blues. This was a fun one to work through. I tried to play that little ending that Marine plays on it. That didn’t sound that great. 😂 Anyway, now I want to go listen to some Robert Cray. He has a great song with some cool blues piano in it that I really like. It’s called “I’ve Slipped Her Mind”. Awesome piano to complement his amazing guitar playing on that one. 😎
